It’s an interesting time to be alive. Technology is changing the way we do work in a big way. Let me ask you a question. How many of your employees do you see on any given day?
If your business is like many modern workplaces, employees do not all work in the same building like they used to. Some may work from home, the coffee shop or even in satellite offices halfway across the world.
Those employees might feel disconnected, disengaged and not aligned with the culture you have been trying to cultivate. Technology is changing the way we do work. It is simultaneously connecting and separating us through time and space.
“A huge component to designing software is to see it, feel it, play with it, and know the ideas we had do work–or don’t. At Mutual Mobile we get to work closely with engineers and see things we come up with actually get built.”
Not tangible? Doesn’t count. Many of us have experienced a variety of start up, agency, or other environments where deliverables get tossed over the fence, never to be seen again. For Selina, designing software doesn’t end when dev starts. In fact, in many ways, that’s just the beginning.
Survey results indicate that shared vision across all pillars of product development is the missing link for many organizations pursuing design transformation.
The majority of respondents expressed that not only do their organizations lack strong design vision, they also struggle to integrate design into their overall product development process.
Building digital products that change the world requires radical collaboration. Radical collaboration challenges craftspeople to loosen their grip on the skills that define them — to teach others and assume a servant role for the sake of greater impact.
Half-hearted collaboration, on the other hand, is a faint agreement to work together because you have to. It’s the difference between tossing a project over the fence without so much as a “Hi-dee ho, neighbor!” and tearing down the fence to allow for the completely free flow of information across disciplines.
